PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Isabela Rodriguez and Jade Uresti each collected three hits to help propel the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the Southern Jaguars 8-5 on Friday.
Kayla Adams (6-4) got the win out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (11-11, 3-0). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on one hit, allowing two walks and striking out four.
In addition to her three hits, Uresti had an RBI to lead the Panthers. Rodriguez added a triple and an RBI to her three-hit performance as well. Kayla Zaid also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 3-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Zaid came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board.
The Panthers kept the Jaguars off the board before tying it up in the second. Prairie View A&M brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Uresti's single, which evened the score at 3-3.
That 3-3 tie turned into a 5-3 Prairie View A&M lead in the third. The Panthers picked up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple from .
Prairie View A&M kept the Jaguars scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. Zaid crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Panthers, bringing the score to 6-3 in favor of Prairie View A&M.
Southern got within 6-4 until the Panthers scored again in the fifth inning to stretch its lead to 8-4. Prairie View A&M managed to push across two runs in the inning. Southern put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Panthers still held on for the 8-5 win.
