RUSTON, La. - After a week off due to weather, the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers are back on the diamond as they travel to Ruston to face the Grambling State Lady Tigers in a three-game SWAC series. The series opens Friday, April 10 with a doubleheader beginning at noon, followed by game two at 2:00 p.m. at the GSU Softball Complex.
Prairie View A&M (19-14, 11-1 SWAC) enters the weekend as one of the hottest teams in the conference, powered by a high-performing offense. Freshman Morgan Smith leads the charge with an impressive .476 batting average and .565 on-base percentage, while senior Mia Nunez has been a power threat, tallying six home runs and a team-best 38 RBIs with a .758 slugging percentage. Seniors Kayla Zaid (.371) and Dyani McKinley (.364) continue to provide consistency at the plate, combining speed and contact hitting to keep the offense moving.
In the circle, junior Kayla Adams has been the anchor for the Lady Panthers, posting a 2.66 ERA across 100 innings with 56 strikeouts. Sophomore Yasmyn Stewart adds depth to the pitching staff, contributing valuable innings and experience.
Grambling State (13-20, 4-10 SWAC) will look to defend home turf behind a lineup led by Cadashia Collins, who is batting .423, and Ziya Donaldson, who has driven in 21 runs this season. Kamryn Broussard adds extra-base power with nine doubles and a home run.
The Lady Tigers' pitching staff has faced challenges this season, with Jaidan Richard logging the most innings (95.1) while posting a 6.31 ERA. Prairie View will look to capitalize offensively against a staff allowing a high number of hits and runs.
