Prairie View A&M softball continued its dominance in the Southwestern Athletic Conference during the 2026 season, capturing its fourth consecutive SWAC Western Division championship and further solidifying its place as one of the league's premier programs.
Led by head coach Vernon Bland, the Lady Panthers finished the season with a 27-17 overall record and an impressive 19-4 mark in conference play. Prairie View A&M consistently rose to the occasion throughout the season, combining timely offense, dominant pitching, and disciplined play to remain atop the SWAC West standings for the fourth straight year.
The Lady Panthers' success was reflected in the conference's postseason awards as Prairie View A&M earned six All-SWAC selections, highlighted by freshman Morgan Smith being named the 2026 SWAC Freshman of the Year. Smith also earned Second Team All-SWAC honors after making an immediate impact in her first collegiate season.
Senior second baseman Kayla Zaid and junior pitcher Kayla Adams were both named First Team All-SWAC. Zaid paced the offense with a batting average above .400, while Adams anchored the pitching staff with 13 victories, 13 complete games, and a 2.86 ERA.
Prairie View A&M also placed four players on the All-SWAC Second Team. Senior third baseman Dyani McKinley provided veteran leadership while batting .364 with 39 hits, 22 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases. Senior outfielder Mia Nunez turned in another outstanding campaign, batting .358 with 43 hits, 53 RBIs, 13 doubles, six triples, and eight home runs. Designated player Caidence Martin earned postseason recognition after hitting .412 with 21 hits, 18 RBIs, and a .524 on-base percentage, while Smith rounded out the Lady Panthers' second-team selections.
The four consecutive division championships are a testament to the culture of excellence established within the program. Prairie View A&M has become the standard in the SWAC West, consistently competing for conference championships while developing student-athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom.
Although the season came to an end in the SWAC Tournament, the Lady Panthers once again demonstrated why they remain among the conference's elite. With another division title, six postseason honors, and a talented returning core, Prairie View A&M closed the 2026 season having strengthened its legacy and positioned itself for continued success in the years ahead.
