Former PVAMU student-athlete Oscar Reed begins his first season with the Panthers and will be responsible for the team’s pitching staff. Reed brings a variety of experience to the Panthers as a former coach in the high school and select baseball ranks.
Reed was an outfielder for the Panthers in 2008 and 2009 as he capped off his collegiate career as PVAMU’s leader in doubles while finishing fourth on the team with a .356 batting average. The following season in 2010, Reed was named the head varsity coach at Crescent City Baptist High School in Metairie, La. In his first tenure as head coach, his team finished the season 20-7 while losing in the second round of the state playoffs.
The New Orleans, La. native moved to Houston and began his professional career as an intern at Houston Baptist University. Reed served in the compliance department under former Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance & Academics David Moss. In the fall of 2011, Reed received valuable coaching experience with current Houston Astros’ manager Bo Porter as he assisted the then-Washington Nationals’ third base coach in training current MLB and college players.
In 2009, Reed earned his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Prairie View A&M University. Reed also earned a Master’s degree in Sports Administration from the University of Canisius in 2012.
