Prairie View A&M University Athletics

Alvin Fosselman, III

Alvin Fosselman III is entering his 7th season on the Prairie View A&M University Football coaching staff.

In the Spring of 2023, Fosselman was assigned to lead the Panthers as Defensive Coordinator, just one year post coordinating the PVAMU Special Teams unit. Fosselman coached a group of talented defensive players to a 6-2 overall SWAC Conference record, earning another Western Division Title in his first year as the defensive coordinator and the panthers second western division title over the past three seasons. During this amazing run, the defense played outstanding during the second half of the year and earned the right to represent the SWAC West.  In the postseason, Fosselman had three players to go on to represent Prairie View A&M in the HBCU Legacy Bow: linebackers Trevion Green and Keyshawn Johnson, and Defensive End Myles Mchaney. Green later earned a camp invite with the New England Patriots.

In 2022, Fosselman was promoted to Special Teams Coordinator and saw instant success in the special teams’ play and was ranked in many of the FCS national statistical categories. Some of those rankings consisted of punt return defense (#7), blocked punts (#14), and blocked kicks (#16). Punting unit played great all season, contributing to the Panthers success of great field position and the coverage teams did a great job of not giving up a return touchdown during the season. Also, the Panthers continued its dominance at the linebacker position as transfer Keyshawn Johnson dominated SWAC play as one of the top tacklers in the conference. PVAMU finished 2nd in the SWAC West Standings and Johnson finished the year with 76 total tackles, 5 sacks, and 11 tackles for loss, leading the defense.

Fall 2021, Fosselman continued to lead and develop a good group of linebackers as the Panthers were able to win the SWAC WEST and represent Prairie View A&M University in the SWAC Championship game. Playing stellar defense all season on each level helped to give PVAMU their first SWAC Championship appearance since 2009. This defense was led by linebacker Tre’Shaud Smith, who finished that season with 84 total tackles and was instrumental in the success of the SWAC West Championship. Linebacker play continued to be good all season as younger players such as sophomore Tre’vion Green and junior linebacker Shahid Reece really performed well all year, providing a very deep group when it came to depth in the linebacker room.

Spring Season 2021 was one to remember when it came down to linebacker play as Storey Jackson not only led the conference in most statistical categories, he also led the nation and was named NCAA STATS FCS All-American. During this season, Storey was the number #1 tackler in the country averaging 16.7 tackles per game. He was the number #1 linebacker in the conference and quickly was added to the Buck Buchanan watch list and later being named a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award. Jackson was also named 1st team All-SWAC and Boxtorow 1st team All-American.
