Manny Martinez

Martinez began his tenure at Prairie View A&M University on March 9, 2026, as the Panthers' Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator. A veteran coach with more than 25 years of experience, Martinez has built a reputation for developing dominant offensive lines, producing elite rushing attacks, and mentoring numerous all-conference performers throughout his collegiate and high school coaching career.

A native of Houston, Texas, Martinez played football at McMurry University before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Houston in 1997. He began his coaching career as a student assistant at Houston before serving as a graduate assistant offensive line coach at Texas A&M University from 1999-2000.

Martinez earned his first full-time collegiate coaching position in 2001 as the offensive line coach at Dodge City Community College. He then spent two seasons at Blinn College, where his offensive line paved the way for running back Derrick Ross to rush for 1,629 yards and 22 touchdowns during his final season.

In 2004, Martinez joined Texas Southern University as offensive line coach, beginning the first of three stints with the Tigers. During his initial tenure (2004-07), he helped develop the program's first 1,000-yard rusher since 1998 when Brent Wilson rushed for 1,032 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2005.

Following two seasons as offensive line coach at Alvin High School (2008-09), Martinez returned to Texas Southern in 2010. During his second stint, he coached Marcus Wright to a 1,200-yard rushing season and helped TSU field the SWAC's second-ranked rushing offense in 2011, averaging 164.5 yards per game while ranking third in the conference in sacks allowed. Martinez remains the last offensive line coach at Texas Southern since the mid-1990s to produce multiple 1,000-yard rushers on separate occasions.

Martinez moved to Howard University in 2013, where he spent three seasons guiding one of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's top offenses. In 2013, Howard led the MEAC in total offense, ranked second in rushing offense at 200 yards per game, and allowed just 13 sacks—the fewest in the conference. During his tenure, quarterback Greg McGhee amassed nearly 5,000 passing yards and more than 6,000 yards of total offense, while running back Anthony Philyaw rushed for 721 yards and 15 touchdowns as a true freshman.

In 2016, Martinez returned to the Houston area as offensive line coach at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. Competing in Texas' highest classification, he helped lead the Crusaders to consecutive playoff appearances while developing future University of Arizona standout Michael Wiley, who rushed for 2,632 yards and 29 touchdowns over his junior and senior seasons.

Martinez later returned to Texas Southern for a third stint as offensive line coach in 2019, continuing his long-standing success developing offensive linemen and improving rushing attacks within the SWAC.

Prior to arriving at Prairie View A&M, Martinez spent four seasons at Texas A&M-Kingsville, where he helped engineer one of the most remarkable offensive turnarounds in the nation. In 2025, the Javelinas improved from 121st nationally in total offense to 12th, while ranking sixth nationally in passing offense and among the country's leaders in red-zone scoring efficiency. Quarterback Jack Turner broke the school's single-season passing record and finished as the nation's third-leading passer. During his tenure, Martinez developed multiple All-Lone Star Conference offensive linemen, including Jayden Trapp, Miguel Carrizales, Kevaughnte McGowan, Brenan Jackson, and Troy Billman.

Committed to professional development throughout his career, Martinez has participated in NFL Minority Coaching Internships with the Detroit Lions (2001), Houston Texans (2006), Seattle Seahawks (2007), and Minnesota Vikings (2010).

Martinez and his wife, Michelle, are the proud parents of a son, Matthew, and a daughter, Emma Rose.
