Ted White

Ted White joined the PVAMU football coaching staff in 2018 as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

In his first season, QB Jalen Morton set a school record for total offense in a single season with 3,218 yards (2,344 passing, 874 rushing), as well as set a single-game school record with 255 rushing yards.  

Against UAPB, the Panthers set a single-game school record with 815 yards total offense (432 rushing, 383 passing). PVAMU set a school-record with three 60-point games in one season as TE Zarrian Holcombe, RB Dawonya Tucker, OL Dejohn Jones and Christian Rice, and WR Tristen Wallace all earned All-SWAC honors.

White spent the previous two seasons (2016-17) in a similar role at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. In 2017, the Golden Lions' offensive improved by more than eight points per game than the previous year.

From 2011 to 2016, White was Associate Head Coach / Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach at his alma mater, Howard. 

During White's tenure at Howard, Greg McGhee earned MEAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year honors and broke the league's record for career total yards, surpassing a mark set by White. 

Under White’s direction, 2014 was another great offensive year. Howard was 1st in total offense (384.8), 1st in 1st downs per game (22.0), 3rd in rushing offense (189.3) and 3rd in passing offense (200.3)

In 2013 as Howard’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, White worked closely with quarterback Greg McGhee, who earned 2013 MEAC Offensive Player of the Year honors and also finished 1st in MEAC Conference in total offense (3,275). Under White’s direction, 2013 served as one of the best offensive years in history, Howard was 1st in total offense (403.9), 2nd in rushing offense (200.1), 3rd passing offense (203.8), 1st in first downs per game (22.3), 1st in 3rd downs conversions (47.6%), and 1st in 4th down conversions (68%). Howard well- balanced attack was keyed by a deep running game that compiled over 1,800 yards on the ground lead by  McGhee (896) & Anthony Philyaw (722).

In 2012, Howard University had its first winning season since 2004 with a 7-4 record. White’s offense finished top 5 in MEAC Conference in every category.

During 2011 in his first season as Howard’s offensive coordinator, White helped guide the Bison to 5 wins, eclipsing Howard’s total of three wins during the previous three seasons combined. On offense, Howard quarterback McGhee was named MEAC Rookie of the Year after finishing 3rd in the conference in total offense by averaging 198.5 yards per game. He threw for 1,784 passing yards and 13 touchdowns while adding 388 yards and 4 touchdowns rushing. McGhee was protected by Senior Offensive tackle Cory Gwinner who earned 1st Team MEAC honors in 2011. Senior Wide Receiver Willie Carter was also named 1st Team ALL-MEAC after recording 50 catches for 646 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Over his career, White has also shown a willingness to expand his coaching knowledge.

As part of the NFL’s Minority Internship Program, White has interned with six different professional teams - the NFL's Oakland Raiders (2015), Minnesota Vikings (2014 & 2012), and Atlanta Falcons (2007 & 2008) - as well as the CFL's  Winnipeg Bluebombers (2008), Edmonton Eskimos (2010), Saskatchewan Roughriders (2010). The program prepares young minority assistant coaches for head coaching positions.

Prior to his appointment at Howard in 2011, White spent a season (2010) as Co- Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Southern University. Under White’s guidance, freshman quarterback Dray Joseph was SWAC Offensive Rookie of the Year with 12 touchdowns.

White began his coaching career at Texas Southern University, where he served as the Tigers Quarterback and Wide Receiver coach under his former college coach Steve Wilson from (2006-2008). In addition to his duties with the wide receivers, White also assisted in tutoring Texas Southern quarterbacks. As wide receivers coach, White presided over one of the deepest receiving corps in the SWAC Conference.

White is a 1999 graduate of Howard University. In 1996 White was named the MEAC Player of the Year and Black College Football Player of the Year. He also earned First Team Division I-AA All-America honors in 1996 and 1998 and was named the Pigskin Player of the Year award. By the close of his collegiate career he had 9,845 yards total offense.

Following his groundbreaking performances on the collegiate level, White played professionally for five years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. White also had stints with the Barcelona Dragons of NFL Europe and the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

In 2014, White was inducted into the Howard University Hall Of Fame & 2010 he was also inducted into the MEAC Conference Hall of Fame.

White is married to Ladricca, and together they have a daughter, Kelsey.
