Travon Jones is a junior tight end from Miami, Florida, majoring in Health at Prairie View A&M University. A graduate of Dutchtown High School, Travon brings leadership, discipline, and passion to the football field. Known by many as “Champ,” he plays with intensity and purpose every time he steps onto the gridiron.
Travon’s most memorable moment in football came when he made a game-winning interception to end a five-plus-year losing streak against a rival school—something he had visualized and worked toward since he first started playing the sport. On game days, he has a deeply personal ritual: he listens to gospel and old-school R&B music in the morning, then FaceTimes his family as he walks the field, taking time to pray, give thanks, and reflect on his journey.
Off the field, Travon enjoys live streaming, working out, and playing video games. His favorite entertainer is Kai Cenat, and Black Panther holds the top spot on his all-time movie list. When it comes to food, nothing beats mac and cheese. He loves Thanksgiving for the time it allows him to spend with family and friends, all while being reminded of what truly matters.
Travon believes the greatest challenges athletes face today are maintaining faith and learning patience—two things he continues to grow in every day. Five years from now, his goals are clear: he plans to have won two SWAC titles, two Celebration Bowls, and to be a Super Bowl champion with at least one Pro Bowl appearance under his belt. His ultimate dream job is to play in the NFL.
He chose Prairie View A&M because of the honesty and transparency shown by Coach Jack and the staff. Rather than sugarcoat things, they laid out the reality—the good, the bad, and the ugly. That level of trust and mutual respect helped Travon feel confident he had found a program and coaching staff that would support him for life.
