HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Prairie View A&M women's tennis team dropped their season opener to Sam Houston State by a margin of 7-0 on Friday afternoon on the campus of Sam Houston State.

SHSU swept all three matches in doubles play to claim an early 1-0 margin as the Lady Panther tandems of Brittany Herrell/Lerato Ndlovu and Lise Karenzi/Alix Thomas both dropped 8-2 decisions. The No. 2 team of Alejandra Barrera and Raven Lewis fell 8-3 to SHSU's Sheridan Currie and Cally Woerner.

In singles, Harrell had the strongest performance of the afternoon as the freshman fell in a three-set tiebreaker to SHSU's Tatyana Postnikova. Harrell won the first set 7-5 but dropped sets two and three 6-2 and 1-0 (10-6), respectively. Ndlovu fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles while Barrera dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the No. 4 spot. Lewis, Thomas and Karenzi rounded out singles play as they all fell by identical margins of 6-1, 6-0.

The Lady Panthers return to action on Saturday as they travel to Texas State at 11 a.m. in San Marcos, Texas.
