Panthers Knock Off Houston Baptist 11-4 For Third Straight Win

HOUSTON – Giovanni Angel and Evan Richard combined for six hits as Prairie View A&M picked up an 11-4 non-conference win over Houston Baptist on Tuesday afternoon at Husky Field.

The Panthers wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard with a five-run first inning which was highlighted by Andre Oliver and Brandon Brooks' two RBIs.  Junior Michael Long drove in the team's sixth run of the afternoon in the second frame via a sacrifice fly but HBU answered in the bottom frame with three runs to close its deficit to 6-3.

Prairie View A&M added a pair of runs in the fourth and sixth frames to move ahead by a comfortable margin.  The Panthers rounded out their scoring in the seventh by crossing home another run while holding HBU scoreless in the eighth and ninth frames to seal the win.

Angel and Richard both recorded three hits with Angel also scoring a pair of runs.  Darryl Johnson and Brandon Brooks followed with two hits each while Johnson and Long both scored twice.  Marcus Williams, Oliver and Brooks led the way with two RBIs apiece.

Freshman Clayton Orsak (1-0) earned his first career win on the mound.  Travis Tipps, Theo Ater, Cody Murray and Daniel Castillo came on in relief and allowed only four hits in a combined seven innings of work.

The Panthers travel to Pine Bluff, Ark. on Saturday to meet Arkansas-Pine Bluff beginning with a noon doubleheader.  Sunday's contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
