Panthers Overcome The Past Following Doubleheader Win Over UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Prairie View A&M baseball team captured a doubleheader over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday as they won 10-3 and 8-2 at the Tori Hunter Complex. The doubleheader marks the first series win at UAPB since 2008 and only the second series won in Pine Bluff, Ark. since 2002.

In game one, the Panthers scored at least one run in seven consecutive innings as they captured a 10-3 victory.

First baseman Kyle Bible led the team with three RBIs while shortstop Andre Oliver added two RBIs. Brandon Williams, Rafael Perez and Sal Hernandez all scored twice. Junior Michael Listi improved to 3-1 on the year after striking out seven batters with no walks allowed in seven innings of action.

Colby Hines, Rafael Perez and Oliver combined for five hits and three RBIs as the Panthers captured the series in a 10-2 win during game two.

The Panthers secured control of the contest in the third with a four-run frame as Perez singled home two RBIs coupled with runs from Giovanni Angel and Oliver. The Golden Lions added a run in the bottom frame but PV continued to roll as they held UAPB's offense at bay after tacking on four runs over the final six innings for the win.

Junior Derrick Mitchell upped his record to 3-1 on the season after a seven-strikeout performance. PV totaled 13 hits on the afternoon with Hines leading the way with three. Perez drove in three runs on the afternoon after a 2-for-3 outing at the plate.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon in Pine Bluff, Ark.
