Baseball Wins Fourth Straight After Doubleheader Sweep

GAME ONE BOX SCORE

GAME TWO BOX SCORE

The Prairie View A&M baseball team used their depth at the pitching position as 10 pitchers saw action in a doubleheader sweep over Jarvis Christian on Tuesday afternoon in Prairie View.

In game one, Prairie View fought back from a six-run deficit as they rallied for a 7-6 win in the opener.

After two scoreless innings, the contest witnessed its first rally as Jarvis Christian opened up the third frame with a single from leadoff hitter Darris Odums which was followed with a double and a walk that loaded the bases. The Bulldogs took advantage as Nicholas Moss stepped to the plate drilling a single through the middle scoring the first run of the game. Jarvis Christian loaded the bases once more after a batter was hit by a pitch which eventually led to a 2-0 advantage on a single from Caleb Ogden. The Bulldogs didn't stop there as they crossed home four more runs behind six hits en route to a 6-0 edge at the end of the third.

PV answered in the bottom half of the inning when they loaded the bases after an Andre Oliver walk. Giovanni Angel ended PV's goose egg with a two-RBI double to right field followed by Oliver stealing home for a 6-3 deficit. Prairie View managed to squeeze in one more run via Kyle Bible's RBI as they ended the frame trailing 6-4.

The Panthers kept on rolling from that point as Angel drove in another run in the fourth coupled with Kyle Bible's two-run homer to left center during the fifth which earned PV its first lead of the contest at 7-6.  Freshmen pitchers Clayton Orsak and Cody Murray shut down JCC in the sixth and seventh frames to close out the contest for the Panthers.

Anthony Neves (2-0) earned the win in a relief effort after striking out two in 2.1 innings of action. Angel led the way offensively with three RBIs and a pair of hits.

Game two played out a lot differently as PV jumped on top of their opposition early en route to an 11-4 win.

Through two frames, PV raced out to a 4-0 lead as Sterling Smith broke the contest open with a three-RBI double. It wouldn't take long for Smith to round the bases as center fielder Colby Hines recorded an RBI on a sacrifice bunt which brought home the team's fourth run of the contest. After trading runs in the following frame, Prairie View moved ahead 9-4 using a decisive four-run fifth inning behind three hits as Angel and James Fontenot accounted for RBI's during the rally. Prairie View sealed the contest for good in the sixth inning as Fontenot drilled a two-RBI double down the left field line to close out the scoring.

Fontenot finished the contest 2-of-2 from behind the plate while also recording two RBIs. Hines went 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Angel also added a pair of RBIs.

Prairie View travels to Baton Rouge, La. on Saturday as they'll take on Southern in a SWAC doubleheader bout beginning at noon.
