SAN MARCOS, Texas – Despite only allowing four hits, Prairie View A&M dropped a 5-1 decision to Texas State on Wednesday evening.

Prairie View A&M jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Rafael Perez scored on an error by Texas State. The Bobcats moved ahead 2-1 following a two-run third inning and upped their margin to 4-1 with another two-run frame in the fifth.

The Panthers had their chances offensively but stranded 11 runners on base. Redshirt freshman Colby Hines led the Panthers with two hits while seniors Kyle Bible, Sal Hernandez and Perez added a hit apiece. Senior Kellen Simmons was tagged with the loss after allowing three hits and two runs in four innings of action.

The Panthers (21-17) return to the field on Saturday as they host Grambling State in a noon doubleheader at Prairie View A&M.
