AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas handed Prairie View A&M an 8-0 non-conference loss on Tuesday evening at UFCU DischFalk Field in Austin.
The Panthers struggled offensively as they didn't record their first hit until a Sal Hernandez single in the sixth. UT scored a run in the opening frame and was held scoreless for two straight frames before putting the contest away in the middle innings as they combined to score six runs over a three-inning period.
Hernandez, Brandon Brooks and Rafael Perez recorded hits for the Panthers. Kellen Simmons fell to 4-5 on the season after allowing three runs in four innings of action with three strikeouts.
The 2011 regular season comes to a close next Tuesday as the Panthers host Houston Baptist at 2 p.m. in Prairie View.
