Latia Williams Named SWAC Player of the Week

After standout performances in a two-game homestand, Prairie View A&M guard Latia Williams was named SWAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Jan. 25. The junior from Atlanta, Ga. averaged a double-double in the Lady Panthers' two wins, putting up 20 points and 12 rebounds, to go with five assists and four steals per contest.

In a 61-56 win over Mississippi Valley State on Jan. 21, Williams went 7-for-13 from the field and 4-for-5 from the foul throw line. She finished the game with 18 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

In a record-setting 102-51 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Jan. 23, in which Prairie View broke a school scoring record of 100 points set against Wiley College in 1987, Williams was one of three PVAMU players to score over 20 points. She tallied 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her fifth double-double in SWAC play. She had seven steals and two assists as the Lady Panthers routed UAPB.

Williams is averaging 14.6 points and 12.4 rebounds in conference games, and has been integral in the Lady Panthers' three-game SWAC win streak. Prairie View A&M is 7-11 with a 4-3 SWAC record.

Prairie View A&M travels to Montgomery, Ala. this Saturday to face Alabama State beginning at 3 p.m. in the Acadome.
