GAME ONE BOX SCORE
GAME TWO BOX SCORE
The Prairie View A&M baseball team redeemed themselves in grand fashion after a disappointing 6-1 loss to Texas College Sunday afternoon. Prairie View A&M rebounded with a 6-4 win to close out the doubleheader on a high note.
In Game 2 of the double header, the Panthers trailed Texas College 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth and needed a spark to avoid dropping two consecutive games to their NAIA opponent.
They got it in the form of a three-run eighth, which was jump started by a
Brandon Brooks' RBI single to score
Evan Richard to tie the game at 4. Then with the bases loaded Trey Price sent a double to the centerfield wall, bringing in both
James Fontenot from third and Brooks from second.
That two-RBI double got the crowd on its feet and and gave the Panthers the cushion they needed.
Daniel Castillo came in to close the game for coach
Waskyla Cullivan, and finished a quick inning. The side-arm righty allowed just one hit and retired the three other batters without a hitch for the save.
“It was a great win, but if we could come out and play better early and get momentum in the early innings I think it would help us,” Cullivan said. “We showed great fight and character to come back and win this game after losing Game 1.”
To set up Castillo, Prairie View turned to sophomore
Chuck Ater. He recorded his first win of the season, pitching three innings of relief. Ater gave up three hits, one earned run and had five strike outs for the Panthers.
“We brought
Chuck Ater in some critical situations, and he got us out of it,” Cullivan said. “He was a key factor in us getting this victory, because he kept us close.”
Prairie View A&M finished the four-game series 3-1 over Texas College and improved to 3-5. The Panthers will face McNeese State Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in Lake Charles, La.
