Panthers Can't Complete Sweep Against Southern

BOX SCORE
The Prairie View A&M baseball team suffered its first defeat of Southwestern Athletic Conference Play on Sunday afternoon as it lost 7-1 to Southern in Baton Rouge, La.

The Panthers(11-8,4-1 SWAC) were unable to complement their two dominating wins Saturday and perform the three-game series sweep over the Jaguars. They were had trouble overcoming the ejections of coach Waskyla Cullivan, catcher Evan Richard and reliever Clayton Orsak.

Cullivan was ejected in the third after questioning an out, and things went downhill for the Panthers from there. Prairie View A&M was already trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the third when Cullivan was ejected.

Starter Stef Hernandez surrendered a three-run first inning and a one-run second as the Panthers fell behind early. Prairie View A&M got its first and only run of the game in the third when Darryl Johnson singled to center field and scored James Fontenot from third.

The Panthers offense will look to bounce back from a six-hit performance by picking up a couple of wins against Houston Baptist on Tuesday in a double-header in Houston.
