One of the most important weekends of the season is upon the Prairie View A&M baseball and softball teams as SWAC Western Division Championship implications are on the line. The Lady Panther softball team will host SWAC rival TSU for division bragging rights beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. while the baseball team hosts Southern in a series which can further separate them from the rest of the division on Saturday at noon.
Under the guidance of head coach Vernon Bland, the softball team has come full circle after two seasons of missing postseason action. The Lady Panthers are currently in first place in the SWAC West and can wrap up the No. 1 seed with at least two wins this weekend. Friday's opponent in TSU will be a formidable foe as the Lady Tigers are the reigning back-to-back SWAC West Champions and enters the series with only three SWAC losses like PVAMU.
The series begins on Friday afternoon as the teams will play a single game at 3 p.m. followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday at the Lady Panther softball complex in Prairie View.
The baseball diamond will be abuzz with activity as the Panthers will host Southern University in a big divisional battle beginning on Saturday at noon in Prairie View.
Prairie View A&M opened round two of SWAC play last weekend with a series win over TSU and improved their lead to four games over second-place Southern. The Panthers control their own destiny at this point and can wrap up the division by winning the remainder of their three SWAC series. The series begins on Saturday with a noon doubleheader followed by a single nine-inning affair on Sunday.
Live stats for both games will be available via the Prairie View A&M (pvpanthers.com) website.
