Prairie View A&M could not complete the sweep against Grambling State, and they were defeated in a 16-4 run rule Sunday afternoon at home.
The Panthers got off to a bad start defensively were not able to recover. Starter
Michael Listi pitched three scoreless innings for the Panthers before things started to unravel. The Panthers gave up two runs in the fourth, and then a six-run fifth inning for Grambling State quickly put the game out of hand. The Panthers, who had allowed just nine runs combined in their previous five games surrendered 16 in seven innings to Grambling State.
Prairie View A&M started to get on a roll offensively in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring four runs to put a dent in the deficit. However, by then it was too late.
Evan Richard led the way, going 1-for-2 with one RBI, one run scored and two base-on-balls. Dominiq Harris went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Harris' RBI single in the sixth to drive in
Michael Long for the Panthers was the catalyst for the three-run inning.
The Panthers (24-22, 15-8 SWAC) still hold the second place seed in the West Division and will host Texas Southern in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. Wednesday on the Panther Baseball Field.
