RESULTS
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Pierre Shepherd, Rashad Wilson and Preston Woodard opened the 2013 indoor track season on a strong note as the trio won their respective field events at the Bill Easton Classic on Saturday on the University of Kansas campus.
Shepherd jumped an indoor career-best mark of 7-0.25 to win the high jump as the junior cleared the bar on his second attempt at the respective mark. Wilson won the long jump with a bang as he jumped 22-6.25 on his very first attempt to seal the victory while Woodard picked up where he left off last season with a first-place performance in the triple jump as his mark of 49-10.5 was also accomplished on his very first jump of the season.
On the track, freshman Xavier Morris placed second in his first-ever collegiate event as he ran a time of 8.41 in the 60-meter hurdles. Woodard followed him in the same event as he placed third (8.45) followed by a fourth-place performance from Crayton Johnson (8.68). Sorone Batiste ran 4:27.54 en route to a third-place finish in the 1-mile run while Michael White finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:07.44.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the Panther “A” tandem of Dewaylon Wilson, Batiste, Patrick Overshown and Vernon Lewis ran a time of 3:22.30 which was good for second place in their season debut.
Anthony Smith threw a length of 50-feet to place third in the weight throw and followed it up with a throw of 45-03.5 in the shot put to place third. In the jumps, Quin-Tarius Crenshaw jumped 6-3.25 to place fourth in the high jump.
The Panthers return to action this weekend as they'll travel to College Station, Texas for the annual Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
