BOX SCORE
Despite a record-setting day from senior wideout Deandre Cooper, the Prairie View A&M Panthers failed to keep up with Abilene Christian in an offensive shootout as the Wildcats claimed a 65-45 win at Blackshear Field on Saturday afternoon.

Cooper, a senior from Houston, shattered PVAMU all-time great Otis Taylor's single season mark of 1,015 receiving yards with a 104-yard effort.  He's also the single season record holder in receptions as he has 79 with one game remaining.  Cooper is 407 yards short of PVAMU's all-time receiving mark of 2,220 yards set by Taylor.

ACU struck first as quarterback John David Baker capped off a three-play, 43-yard drive with a 1-yard scamper at the 12:14 mark of the first quarter.  The Panthers answered ACU's opening score with a touchdown of their own on the ensuing possession as Jerry Lovelocke connected with Greg Thurmond for a 16-yard touchdown pass with 10:24 on the clock.  The PAT by Chris Barrick was good as the score was tied at 7-all.

The Wildcats wasted no time in answering PVAMU's score with a 60-yard touchdown run by Charcandrick West.  Nik Grau's PAT was good as the Wildcats led once again for the 14-7 advantage at the 9:47 mark.  Prairie View A&M put forth a long drive on its next possession but had to settle for a field goal as Barrick's 22-yard field goal was good with 5:17 left in the first quarter.  However, ACU continued its trend of quick scores as West capped off a three-play drive for a 21-10 margin 56 seconds later.

The back-and-forth scoring would cease on PVAMU's next drive as Barrick's 51-yard field goal fell short towards the close of the first quarter.  However, the defense forced a turnover on downs early in the second quarter and the offense rewarded them for their efforts as Courtney Brown broke free for a 31-yard touchdown run to draw within 21-17 after Barrick's PAT.  Unfortunately, the momentum quickly faded for the Panthers as ACU drove 66 yards in 13 plays to move ahead 28-17 following West's 3-yard run and Grau's PAT.

Despite the setback, the Panther offense responded once again on their next drive and went to a sure thing as Cooper caught a 7-yard pass from Lovelocke.  Barrick's PAT was good as the Panthers trailed 28-24 with 6:01 remaining.  Both teams traded points after the score but ACU ended the brief scoring drought as Baker connected with Demarcus Thompson for a 13-yard score with 49 seconds left in the half.  The PAT was good as the Wildcats went into the half on top 35-24.

ACU struck first in the third quarter as Baker found Noah Cheshier for a 5-yard pass with 9:27 left in the quarter for a 42-24 margin following the PAT.  The Panthers had their field goal attempt blocked on the ensuing possession and ACU answered with a 29-yard field goal attempt of its own to lead 45-24 with 2:14 left.  As the third quarter came to a close, the Panthers trimmed their deficit to 45-31 as Cooper caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Lovelocke.

Both teams traded scores to open the fourth quarter as Jacoby Anderson caught a 15-yard pass from Lovelocke to draw within 52-38.  ACU responded with a touchdown to move ahead 59-38 but once again, the Panthers fought back after Greg Thurmond's 4-yard pass from Lovelocke. The defense forced an ACU punt on the ensuing drive but the offense missed a prime opportunity to make up more ground as a dropped pass killed the drive on fourth down.  From that point, ACU added another score to seal the win and improve to 3-0 in the all-time series.

Nearly 1,300 yards of total offense took place on Saturday with PV amassing 593 total offensive yards.  Brown rushed for 131 yards on 20 carries followed by 101 from Johnta' Hebert.  Lovelocke passed for 310 yards and five touchdowns while Cooper caught nine passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns.  Robert Jackson led the defense with 11 tackles, a half-sack and pass break-up.

Brown also surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career and became the first Panther to do so since 2008.

The Panthers close out the 2013 season at home versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 1 p.m. inside Blackshear Field.
