The Prairie View A&M women's tennis team wrapped up its fall competition on Sunday at the Cougar Classic on the John E. Hoff Courts in Houston with two players making the consolation bracket finals and one player advancing to the third place game in the winners bracket of her draw.
Freshman
Taylor LeFridge made the third place game of the 6 Singles Draw, defeating Hanna Elfving of Lamar 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the semifinal match on Saturday against Solomiya Zinko of Rice. LeFridge was defeated 6-1, 6-0 to drop into the third place game for Sunday afternoon. Â
Senior
Brittany Harrell bounced back in dramatic fashion after suffering a loss in the first round of the 5 Singles Draw in the Cougar Classic. In a back and forth match versus Texas State's Katy Collins, Harrell forged an epic comeback to defeat her opponent 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 and advanced to the consolation championship match.
"It was a good Tournament," Prairie View A&M coach
John Cochran said. "We played well. Brittany's win against the Texas State player in the second set was a breakthrough win. She was down 5-3 in the second set and fought all the way back. That's a big confidence builder as heading into her final year of competition."
A week earlier in the Texas State Play Day Harrell and LeFridge proved to be a dominant force together in doubles competition, defeating Didi Fatchikova and Christel Amsallem of Texas-Pan America 6-2. The Duo lost in the third place match of the 3 Doubles Draw, but got there by starting off with an 8-4 quarterfinals win over opponents from Stephen F. Austin. The Lady Panthers would withdraw from competition on Sunday and failed to compete in the third place or consolation championship matches.
Back in singles play, junior
