Salcido Garners Player Of Week Award, PV Prepares For West Division Showdown

Prairie View A&M designated hitter Greg Salcido was announced as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week after dominating pitchers with his bat for the week ending on March 16.

Salcido recorded five runs, six hits and eight RBIs in four games played last week as The Panthers finished 3-1. He led the Panthers to a three-game sweep over league rival Texas Southern.  Salcido also tallied a double, home run and drew two walks finishing 8-of-15 from the plate for a .533 batting average.

The junior out of Rowland Heights, Calif. will lead first place Prairie View A&M (5-1) into a three-game series vs. Southern (5-4), which currently sits at second place. The Panthers look to make separation in the Western Division with the win as they search for a top seed in the looming SWAC Tournament.

The Panthers have a 12-8 overall record and will throw starter Jonathan Mata (2-1) in Game 1 of Saturday's double-header scheduled for 1 p.m. Stef Hernandez (2-2) is the probable Game 2 starter for Saturday.

Salcido has a team-high .328 batting average to lead all Prairie View A&M players with 20 or more at bats. He has 15 RBIs and a .446 on base percentage. The hard-hitting third baseman Dominiq Harris has a .294 batting average with a team-high 16 RBIs and a .529 slugging percentage heading into the western division showdown.
