BOX SCORE
Southern University captured the series over Prairie View A&M with an 8-2 victory in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon.
Aided by five walks in the first two innings of play, the Jaguars jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two before Colby Hines singled home Walter Wells in the third for PV's first run of the afternoon. The score remained the same until the top of the sixth as Southern's Jose DeLaTorre hit a two-RBI single for the 6-1 advantage.
DeLaTorre once again was a thorn in PV's side in the eighth with a two-RBI double for an 8-1 advantage. In the bottom of the eighth, Dominiq Harris recorded an RBI single for PV's second run of the afternoon but that would be the closest PV would get as Southern held on to capture the series.
Harris led the Panthers with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with an RBI. Michael Medina was tagged with the loss on the mound after going seven innings.
The Panthers return to action this Tuesday with a doubleheader versus Jarvis Christian at 1 p.m. in Prairie View.
