Prairie View A&M picked up 5-3 and 5-2 wins over Jarvis Christian College on Tuesday afternoon in preparation for its weekend series at conference foe Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

In Game 1 the Panthers rallied from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Jarvis Christian 5-3 in seven innings. Prairie View A&M scored five runs combined in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take control of the game and help starter Edward Robledo improve to 3-0.

The sophomore right hander threw six innings and surrendered three runs (three earned) off of five hits and with just one walk. Reliever Stephen Lunsford closed the game out for Panthers coach Waskyla Cullivan with one scoreless inning of baseball and picked up his first save of the season.

Junior first baseman Dominiq Harris and sophomore shortstop Walter Wells led the way offensively for Prairie View A&M. Harris went 2-for-2 with one RBI and one run scored. His sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3 was pivotal in turning the tide for the Panthers. In the leadoff spot Wells batted 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.

Prairie View A&M starter Chuck Ater pitched four scoreless innings to pick up the win in Game 2. He improved to 1-2 on the season after the 5-3 win.

The Panthers led 1-0 heading into the fifth inning when senior center fielder Colby Hines came through with a RBI single on a line to right field to drive in senior second baseman Andre Oliver. With runners at the corners, designated hitter Greg Salcido sent a sacrifice fly to the left field wall to score Wells from third and give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Prairie View A&M held a 5-0 lead heading into the seventh inning, but reliever Grant Dougherty gave up two unearned runs in 1/3 of an inning as the Bulldogs attempted to Rally. Sam Grant came in to close the game out and put the clamps on the comeback attempt by sending the final batter back to the dugout swinging.

Prairie View A&M improved to 15-10 and will hit the road to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a pivotal conference battle. The Panthers lead the SWAC West with a 6-3 conference record, and will need a good showing in the weekend series to extend its lead on Southern. Game 1 of Saturday's double-header will kick off at noon.
