BOX SCORE 1 |
BOX SCORE 2 The Panthers started off strong with a 7-5 win in Game 1 of their baseball double-header vs. Grambling State on Saturday. However, Game 2 was called in the eighth inning with Grambling taking an 11-1 run-rule victory in Prairie View A&M.
A monstrous first inning gave the Panthers an insurmountable lead in Game 1. Prairie View A&M put together seven runs to take control and give its pitchers wiggle room. With the bases loaded, junior designated hitter
Greg Salcido hit a RBI single to drive in senior right fielder
Brett Valley from third. On the next at bat junior left fielder
Jeff Sealy walked to pick up the RBI. This was followed by a two-RBI double by center fielder
Colby Hines to score Salcido and first baseman
Dominiq Harris. Not to be outdone, senior second baseman
Andre Oliver hit a triple to drive in two runs; he was brought in thanks to a sacrifice fly from catcher
Trey Price.
The Panthers held a 7-0 lead until Grambling strung together four runs in the top of the fifth. Grambling saw its rally fall short in the ninth inning after scoring one run and leaving a runner stranded. Junior starter
Jonathan Mata improved to 1-1 after picking up the victory.
Game 2 didn't go too well for Prairie View A&M. The two teams were tied heading into the top of the sixth inning, but Grambling tacked on 10-consecutive runs in three innings to end the contest early. The Panthers will try to bounce back in a 1 p.m. Game on Sunday at the baseball field on the Prairie View A&M campus.
