An 11-7 Game 2 Win Highlights Panthers Road Trip

TYLER - The Panthers bounced back from a 6-4 loss to Texas College on Tuesday in Game 1 with an offensive explosion in Game 2 of the double-header. Prairie View A&M defeated the Steers 11-7, scoring its 11 runs off of 16 hits.

An eight-run third inning broke the game wide open for the Panthers, who entered the inning with a 3-0 lead. Junior designated hitter Greg Salcido started the inning off with a single and finished the inning going 2-for-2 with two singles as Prairie View A&M batted around the lineup. Senior short stop Andre Oliver provided a 2 RBI single and followed it up by stealing second and third. He scored on a throwing error after stealing third. 

Later in the inning, with two runners in scoring position, senior center fielder Colby Hines hit his first home run of the season to give the Panthers a 10-0 lead. Then junior first baseman Dominiq Harris came through with a sacrifice fly to give the Panthers their last run of the day.

Oliver finished the Game 2 of the double-header with three hits, two RBIs and three stolen bases. He was one of six starters to bat .500 or above in the game.

Panthers starter Chuck Ater picked up the win after pitching 3.1 innings and surrendering just one run (one earned) and three strikeouts. He improved to 2-2 on the season.

The Panthers hit the road for Huntsville to take on Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m.
