Prairie View A&M gave Sam Houston State a scare before suffering a 12-8 loss in Huntsville on Wednesday night to the Bearkats.
The Panthers took a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning and then extended it to 8-5 in the top of the seventh before Sam Houston State rallied back to score seven-consecutive runs in the seventh and eighth innings to avoid the upset.

Sophomore short stop Walter Wells walked to load the bases for senior second baseman Andre Oliver, who earned a RBI on his at bat after walking. Senior right fielder Brett Valley hit a RBI single to drive in Sealy and score the final run of the inning for the Panthers.
Junior first baseman Dominiq Harris and Sealy hit singles to drive in two runs for Prairie View A&M in the seventh to give the Panthers an 8-5 lead heading into the bottom of the inning. However, Sam Houston State rallied to score seven unanswered runs to take the game back from Prairie View A&M.
Junior releiver AJ Helms picked up the loss after going four complete innings and surrendering four runs (three earned) as the Bearkats forged their comeback. Michael Burchett earned the win for Sam Houston State.
The Panthers dropped to 17-16 after the loss and will look to bounce back with another three-game series sweep of conference rival Texas Southern. Game 1 is scheduled to start at noon on Saturday at home on the baseball field.
