Baseball Captures Key Doubleheader Over TSU

Dominiq Harris went yard early and often in Game 2 of Saturday's double header. He hit a three-run homer in the first and a two-run homer in the third inning to carry the Panthers to an 11-6 win and a 2-0 lead in the weekend series against Texas Southern.

The Panthers started Game 2 off with a bang with two runners on for Dominiq Harris, the junior first baseman came through with a three-run homer over the left-center wall to give his team a 3-1 lead. 

Texas Southern came through by scoring one run in both the second and third innings to cut Prairie View A&M's lead to 4-3. Harris then blasted a shot over the left field wall in the third inning to give the Panthers a three-run (6-3) lead. Prairie View held off multiple TSU rallies, and starter Stef Hernandez improved to 3-3 after picking up the win.

Harris picked up his first multiple home run game of his Division I NCAA career and finished the day with eight RBIs. The Panthers improved to 5-0 in SWAC games against Texas Southern.

GAME 2
Greg Salcido came through with a RBI double to score right fielder Brett Valley from second base in the first inning with two outs. However, the wind caught ahold of two balls in the second inning for TSU as TJ Ford started the inning off with a leadoff double and eventually scored on a 6-3 groundout by De Leon. Andrew Garza then came in at the No. 9 hole and coasted a home run over the left field fence.

Andre Oliver started the bottom of the second with a leadoff double that bounced off the left-center fence. He then scored on a stolen base to third that was followed with a throwing error by the pitcher. Later in the inning with two outs and the bases loaded, Dominiq Harris hit a two-RBI double to drive in Valley from third base and Brad Benes from second base to take a 4-2 lead.

Benes provided more run relief for starter Jonathan Mata with a RBI triple to drive in Valley for his third run of the day to give the Panthers a 5-2 lead. The Panthers took a 6-2 lead in the seventh after Harris came through with his third RBI of the game. He hit a double to center field to drive in Salcido from second. Benes finished Game 1 batting 3-for-5 with with one run scored and one RBI. Harris went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one walk.

Mata improved to 3-2 after the win, pitching a seven-hit complete game with three runs (three earned) and four base on balls. Mata struck out the final batter of the night to put an exclamation mark on the game.

The series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Prairie View, Texas.
