FORT WORTH - Prairie View A&M junior first baseman Dominiq Harris was selected to the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference First team after cranking out a career season for the Panthers.
Harris ended the season batting .302, finishing in the Top 15 among all SWAC batters. He leads the SWAC with a .563 batting average against left-handed pitchers, and.485 slugging percentage was second in the league, while his career-high six home runs lead the SWAC and was also first on the team. Harris was also sixth in the SWAC with 82 total bases.
Harris' season was highlighted by a two-home run game vs. Texas Southern on March 16, 2013. He helped the Panthers to an 11-2 victory after batting 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored via the two bombs.
Harris and the Panthers will now beging play the SWAC Tournament off at noon on Wednesday in at LaGrange Field in Fort Worth. The No. 3 seeded Panthers will take on the East's No. 2 seed Alabama State.
Prairie View A&M finished the season with a 23-25 record after ending the season on a three-game losing streak. The Panthers look to bounce back by picking up a win against Alabama State, a team that defeated Prairie View A&M 9-2 on Feb. 22, 2013 in the only match up of the regular season. That game was also played on a neutral field (Minute Maid Park in the MLB Urban Invitational).
