PV Baseball Can't Out-Gun Texas State

BOX SCORE

Prairie View A&M did not have enough fire power to outscore Texas State in a 13-7 loss Wednesday night in San Marcos. The Panthers completed their final non-conference baseball game and will close out the regular season with a double-header beginning at noon on Saturday in Pine Bluff, Ark. against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Senior center fielder Brett Valley batted 3-for-4 for Prairie View A&M with one run scored and one RBI, but that performance only put a dent in the Bobcats' lead. Texas State jumped out early on the Panthers 3-0 in the first inning as starter Edward Robledo struggled against Texas State batters and dropped to 3-3 on the season after the loss.

The Bobcats held as much as a nine-point lead until the Panthers scored seven unanswered runs in the seventh and eighth innings to cut their deficit to 9-7. The rally, however, was short-lived. Texas State put up four runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull away for good from the Panthers.

Prairie View A&M fell to 23-23 after the loss, but it will try to bounce back with wins in its final two Southwestern Athletic Conference games. The Panthers control their own destiny. With one win in the upcoming double-header against UAPB, the Panthers can secure second place in the SWAC West Division for better placement in the upcoming conference tournament. Prairie View A&M has a 12-10 SWAC record.
