BOX SCORE
EDINBURG, Texas – Texas-Pan American scored seven runs in the middle frames to break open a close game as they handed Prairie View A&M a 9-3 loss in the tourney finale of the Al Ogletree Classic on Sunday.
UTPA led 2-0 after two innings but saw its deficit reduced to 2-1 in the third as Jeff Sealy doubled home Josh Jefferson, who reached on a leadoff walk. The Broncs broke the game open with a two-run fourth and a four-run fifth for an 8-1 advantage. PVAMU crossed home two runs in the sixth on Jefferson's two-RBI single to right field but that would end the scoring as UTPA added another run in the sixth for the final margin.
Sealy, Trey Price and Jefferson accounted for a pair of hits apiece while Chadd Flick dropped to 0-1 in a five-strikeout performance.
Due to the postponement of the team's two mid-week series this week, the Panthers will begin SWAC play this weekend in Pine Bluff, Ark. as they'll face Arkansas-Pine Bluff at noon on Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
