HBU Hands Panthers Midweek Road Loss

HOUSTON – Prairie View A&M led twice in the early innings but it wasn't enough as Houston Baptist eventually broke the game open for a 12-4 win on Tuesday.

After reaching on a one out single, freshman Cody Den Beste scored the game's first run in the first inning as he was driven in by Jeff SealyDominiq Harris upped the score to 2-0 as his RBI single down the left field line scored Sealy.  HBU trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with a two-out RBI single in the bottom half and tied it at 2-all in the second.

The Panthers played small ball in the third and came up successful as Sealy drove home Josh Jefferson for the3-2 advantage.  HBU moved ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the third and broke the game open as they combined to score six runs in the fifth and sixth frames.  A Robert Cossey RBI single returned the Panthers to the scoreboard in the eighth but that would end the scoring as HBU added two more runs in the bottom frame.

Sealy led the Panthers with a 2-for-4 outing which included two RBIs and pair of runs while Cossey added two hits and an RBI.  Pedro Maldonado fell to 0-1 on the season as he lasted 4.2 innings.

The Panthers will play Lamar on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Beaumont, Texas.
