Baseball Sweeps Huston-Tillotson In Midweek Action

BOX SCORE

The Prairie View A&M Panthers returned to their winning ways as they swept Huston-Tillotson in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at the Panther Baseball Stadium.

Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to break open a deadlocked contest as they won 8-5 in the opener.

Down 1-0 entering the bottom of the first, Dominiq Harris drew a walk and was driven in by Jeff Sealy to knot the contest at 1-all.  Colby Hines led the second frame off with a double followed by Trey Price's walk.  Walter Wells laid down a bunt single and on the throw to first, the ball sailed over the first baseman's head and scored both Hines and Price for a 3-1 lead.  Robert Cossey was hit by a pitch on the ensuing at-bat which led to Cody Den Beste's RBI single and a 4-1 advantage.

HTU scored three times in the fifth to knot the contest at 4-all all but the Panthers regained control in the seventh as Sealy's RBI single scored Greg Salcido.  The Rams answered with a run in the eighth to tie the score once again but the Panthers regained the upper hand in the bottom of the eighth as Harris' two-RBI double scored both Den Beste and Wells along with Salcido's RBI for the 8-5 advantage.

Deleon Boyd came on in relief and picked up his first win of the season as he struck out six.  Salcido finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored while Sealy and Wells had two hits each.

The Panthers rallied back from a three-run deficit in the second game en route to a 10-7 win.

The Rams jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning and maintained the margin until the third as Jordan Jeanlouis' RBI single scored Josh Jefferson.  Den Beste hit an RBI triple to the left field fence for the Panthers' second run as Jeanlouis rounded the bases from first.

Prairie View A&M moved ahead 4-3 in the fifth as Kevin Lahaie led the inning off with a single and was joined on the bases by Johnlouis, who reached on a walk.  Den Beste tied the game with a two-RBI double followed by Christian Krushall's RBI double to the left field corner.

The Rams closed to within 5-4 in the sixth but the Panthers exploded for four runs in the bottom half as Jefferson drew a bases loaded walk followed by RBIs from Edward Robledo, Jeanlouis and Den Beste.  An error prone seventh by the Panthers allowed Huston-Tillotson to narrow its gap to 9-7 but an RBI trible by Krushall in the bottom of the eighth gave PVAMU its 10th run of the contest.

Den Beste finished the contest with a 3-for-5 outing at the plate which included four RBIs and two runs.  Jeanlouis, Krushall and Lahaie had two hits apiece while Chuck Ater picked up the win on the mound.

Prairie View A&M returns to action on Thursday as they'll face Texas Tech in a three-game series in Lubbock, Texas.
