BOX SCORE (Pictured: Alberto Aveytia pitched eight solid innings, giving up only one earned run in PVAMU's 2-0 loss in game one.)SAN ANTONIO -- After two days of rainouts, Prairie View A&M and Incarnate Word were finally able to salvage two out of three games of their scheduled series on the baseball diamond Sunday.
The two games ended in less-than-ideal fashion for the Panthers of Prairie View A&M, as they fell by scores of 2-0 and 11-0.
The Cardinals won the opening game 2-0 on a pair of sacrifice flies, one by Christian Divelbiss in the bottom of the second inning and one by Ethan McGill in the sixth inning.
The two runs by UIW in the first game was all they needed to overcome a solid pitching performance by Prairie View A&M's
Alberto Aveytia. The junior transfer from El Paso Community College pitched eight innings and allowed only one earned while scattering six hits and striking out four batters. Aveytia lowered his ERA almost a full run per game to 3.85.
In game two, the Cardinals jumped out to a four-run lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as they beat Prairie View A&M for the third time this season.
Prairie View A&M's
Jordan Stewart gave up seven runs over three innings, while
Joseph Mack gave up an additional four runs over his three innings of relief work. Recent SWAC Co-Pitcher of the Week
Jordan Foster pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
Grant Dougherty and
Carson Lee collected base hits in each game for the Panthers.
Walter Wells recorded a walk in the first game and knocked a base hit in game two to extend his on-base streak to 29 games (all 21 PVAMU games this season in addition to his final eight contests last year).
The Panthers return home this week for a Tuesday home game against Houston Baptist. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
