Football To Complete First Month Of Season At Mississippi Valley St. - CLICK TO WATCH LIVE

The Prairie View A&M University football team will close the month of September on the third leg of a four-game road trip Saturday at Mississippi Valley State.

The Panthers (2-1 overall, 2-0 SWAC) will look to extend their eight Southwestern Athletic Conference winning streak at Rice-Totten Stadium at 4 p.m. KPVU 91.3 FM will have a live radio broadcast of the game starting with the pregame show at 3:30 p.m. with Dr. Michael Prince on the call.

Prairie View A&M, coming off a 41-20 win at Alabama A&M Saturday night, had a more common rhythm and mindset during practice this week than the week before. The loss at Texas A&M on Sept. 10 was the first for the Panthers since Sept. 26, 2015.

"I thought this week was more familiar than last week," PVAMU head coach Willie Simmons said. "We're used to coming off of wins and returning to practice. We were on a seven-game winning streak before our loss to Texas A&M. The guys are used to coming off a win and coming back to work continuing to get better. This is a little bit more in our comfort zone. I thought the guys had a good week. They came out with a lot energy and enthusiasm, and trying to get better. That's the main goal –trying to get better every day."

In week four, every team is dealing with bumps and bruises, and the Panthers are no exception. The larger challenge is a Mississippi Valley State team (0-3, 0-2) under veteran head coach Rick Comegy. The Delta Devils have played better than their record indicates and come into the game with the third-ranked defense in the SWAC, one of only three teams yielding less than 400 yards per game.

"We've got a few guys that have some nicks and bruises, so other guys have to step up," Simmons said. "That's what you look for – quality depth at all positions. I thought the guys that needed to step up did a good job of learning what they needed to this week to be ready to play. We're back into conference play, and being familiar with the guys we're going to play. We understand the threat of Mississippi Valley, and understand we have to be focused and ready to play."
