Women's Track and Field Team Adds Two Signees

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas. –  The Prairie View A&M University women's track and field team has two additions to the 2018-19 roster during the early signing period.  Joining the women's team next fall will be Akayla Hill and Helen Roddy.

Hill plans to major in Kinesiology after graduating from Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, Calif.  As one of the top jumpers in the state of California, she has posted personal best in the long jump (18'9") and also in the triple jump (39'1").

"Akaylah brings more depth to a growing jumps group of the PVAMU women's program," said head PVAMU women's track and field coach Angela Williams.  "She will be able to make an immediate impact in the conference.  She is academically a solid student and I am thrilled that she has chosen to come to Prairie View as her future home to further her academic and athletic endeavors."

Roddy, a native of Cedar Park, Texas, plans to major in communications.  The Vista Ridge High School 2018 graduate is a distance runner who has posted personal bests in the 1500 meter run (4:49.41), the 2-mile run (11:18.92) and the 5K (18:08.60).

"I feel as though Helen will bring the type of depth our distance program has been needing," said Williams.  "She can make an immediate impact in the conference and take the women's cross country program to the next level.  Helen is a solid and intelligent young woman.  She will add to an already strong academic group of young women.  I am so excited to have her join our team."

The women's indoor track and field team will open up the 2018 season at the Kansas State Invite on Saturday, January 6 in Manhattan, Kansas.
