Men's Outdoor Track Flashback

(This is a look back at one of the best performances of the 2016-17 season)

Finished Second

A strong finish enabled the Prairie View A&M University outdoor track and field men's team to finish in second place during the 2017 SWAC Track and Field Championships.
 
Sunne Rodriguez-Weems placed fourth to open up Friday's cold and wet day, field events in the men's javelin throw (45.08m).  Levante Williams placed sixth with a time of 33:44.46 adding three more points to the Panthers score.
 
Prairie View A&M added the final six points in the Decathlon (five events).  Tristan Ham placed eighth with a time of 11.47 (759 pts.) in the men's 100 meter dash, while Rodriguez-Weems finished in sixth in the long jump decathlon (624 pts.) at a jump of 6.17m.
 
Ham had a fifth-place finish with a final throw of 9.57m in the men's shot put decathlon (460 pts.), and Rodriguez-Weems finished eight with a throw of 9.01 (426 pts.).  In the men's high jump decathlon Ham placed tied for fourth with a jump of 1.77m (602 pts.), Rodriguez-Weems finished tied for seventh with a jump of 1.71m.  In the final decathlon event the men's 400 meter-dash Ham finished sixth with a time of 55.80 (567 pts.). 
 
Ham received the Gold in the Decathlon with 5,659 points, while Sunne Rodriguez Weems posted a second place finish with 5,581 points and the silver medal to add to the men's team points. Keon Campbell landed a seventh place spot in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.98m to place the men in fourth with 33 points, one point behind Texas Southern, which is currently in third.
 
Logan Williams placed first in the 110 meter hurdles prelims that will conclude on Sunday, with a 14.43 time. William Polley will compete in the men's 400 meter dash finals after finishing third with a time of 48.52 along with Brandon Kirby (48.79) and Carl Jordan (48.81), which finished sixth and seventh in the preliminary relays.
 
Campbell will also compete in the men's 100 meter dash finals, after finishing with a time of 10.44 and a first place finish.  Samuel Omoera will compete alongside Campbell in the 100 meter dash after finishing fifth with a qualifying time of 10.64. In the 400 meter hurdles,  Lo. Williams will make a second appearance after finishing first with a qualifying time of 52.70. Dannie Luckey will also compete in the 400 meter hurdles after completing a 54.79 qualifying time.
 
Campbell finished fourth in the men's 200 with a qualifying time of 21.26, as well as Omoera (21.44) and Jordan (21.57), who placed sixth and eighth.
 
Ham, Lo. Williams, Keon Campbell and the 4x100 relay team all walked away with gold medals to place them second (149.50), behind SWAC Champions Grambling, who had just edged by the Panthers with a total point score of 150.00.
 
In the field events, Deante Crittenden placed fifth with a high jump of 1.94m. Ham received his second gold medal of the three day event with a 4.65 vault in the pole vault, while Rodriguez-Weems received a bronze with a vault of 4.45m. Jovondi Williams received a bronze medal for the men's discus throw of 43.67m.
 
The 4x100 relay team of Campbell, Omoera, Polley and Jordan received the gold medal for their time of 39.88, which was a second season best.  Aaron Austin landed an eighth place finish in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:10.20.
 
Lo. Williams received a gold medal for his performance in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.11. Polley received a bronze for his third place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.33.   Jordan finished fifth (48.40), while Kirby placed sixth with a time of 48.64.
 
Campbell received his first gold medal for dashing to a 10.21 in the 100 meter dash, along with Omoera receiving the bronze medal for his time of 10.40.  Darwin Allen scored for the Panthers in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.40. In the men's 200 meter dash, Campbell scored in the fourth spot with a time of 20.91, along with Omoera who placed fifth with his time of 21.32, and Jordan placed seventh with a time of 21.76.
 
Lo. Williams received a silver medal for his 51.59 finish in the 400 meter hurdles. Le Williams had a sixth place finish (16.22) for the Panthers in the 5000, while Austin placed eighth with a time of 16.24.
 
In the final event of the day, the Panthers placed third in the 4x400 with the time of 3:11.309 with the team of Kirby, Polley, Jordan and Lo. Williams to claim second place over all in the 2017 SWAC track and field championship.
