Prairie View A&M's men's track and field team heads to the Jarvis Scott Invite, the last regular-season meet before the Southwestern Athletic Conference indoor championships. The two-day meet, held Feb. 13-14 at Texas Tech's facility on Broadway Street, will give the Panthers one more chance to sharpen race tactics, solidify event lineups and post qualifying marks ahead of the conference title push.
The meet features a full slate of events split across both days, allowing Prairie View A&M to test its depth and versatility. Day one is loaded with sprint rounds and early distance work, including three rounds of the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles, along with the 800 meters, 400 meters and 5,000 meters. Field events will also be in focus with the long jump on the men's side and several women's events on the schedule, giving Panthers jumpers an opportunity to compete in a fast, competitive environment that mirrors championship conditions.
Day two shifts attention to many of the events that will be central to the Panthers' conference ambitions. The schedule includes men's pole vault, shot put, triple jump and high jump, along with the 200 meters, 1,000 meters, 600 yards, mile, 3,000 meters and the 4x400-meter relay. That lineup positions Prairie View A&M to get key looks at lineup combinations in the relay and to gauge how middle-distance and distance athletes handle doubling back in multiple events, an important factor in conference scoring scenarios.
On the track, several Panthers stand out as key athletes to watch. Sebastian Cruz is slated for the 800 meters, an event where race rhythm and positioning will be crucial against a strong field. In the 400 meters, De'Trevyon Goudeau and Bryce McFadden headline the sprint group. Goudeau enters the weekend with momentum after being named SWAC Newcomer of the Week, and his performance in Lubbock will help indicate whether he can carry that form into the conference meet. McFadden provides another reliable presence in the quarter-mile, giving the Panthers a potential one-two punch in one of the most competitive indoor events.
In the longer sprints and distance races, Joshua Gayden in the 200 meters and Thierry Garcon in the 3,000 meters will look to fine-tune their pacing and race strategies. Gayden's speed over 200 meters could also factor into relay decisions, while Garcon's effort in the 3,000 will offer a preview of his readiness for longer championship races. With a full weekend of competition across sprints, distance, jumps and relays, the Jarvis Scott Invite will serve as Prairie View A&M's final measuring stick before the Panthers shift fully into championship mode for the indoor SWAC meet.
