VICTORIA, Texas - The Prairie View A&M University baseball team split Saturday's doubleheader at Houston-Victoria, winning 7-2 in the opener before losing 7-6 in the nightcap.
 
The Panthers will open the home schedule Tuesday at 2 p.m. vs. Texas College at Tankersley Field.
 
Game 1 – Panthers 7, Jaguars 2: Calvin Rucker went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and 
Corbin Jamison went 2-for-4 at the plate. Ezekiel Bear and 
Jalyn Baker each homered in the opener. 
Darrien Williams threw six innings, allowing five hits and a pair of runs with two walks and four strikeouts.
 
PVAMU got on the board in the third inning, all with two outs. After Rucker walked, Bear homered on an 0-1 pitch to right field to give the Panthers 2-0 lead.
 
In the fourth, 
Avery Williams walked ahead of a two-run homer by Baker, who homered on a 1-0 pitch to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.
 
In the fifth, Rucker led off with a single to left, advanced to second on an error, and advanced to third as Bear reached on an error. 
Steven Williams' sacrifice fly scored Rucker for a 5-0 lead.
Game 2 – Jaguars 8, Panthers 7: The Panthers trailed 7-1 after 3 innings before mounting a comeback that fell just short of completion.
 
In the fourth, 
Brashad Jones tripled with two outs, and scored on a single by 
Kaylor Lewis. 
Kyle Davis followed with a single to center, moving Lewis to second. Demarie Smith then singled to left, scoring Lewis cutting the deficit to 7-3.
 
The Panthers closed the deficit further with three runs in the fifth. Rucker led off with a walk, before 
Avery Williams singled through the left side. 
Tyler Gordon was hit by a pitch to load the bases, before Jamison singled through the right side, scoring Rucker and Williams. With one out, pinch runner 
Austin Alexis scored on a groundout to cut the deficit to the final margin but could get no closer.
 
Tracy Warren went 3-for-5 in the nightcap, while Davis was 2-for-4.
