Big Weekend for Track and Field Seniors as They Host PV Relays

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -  The 2018 PV Relays will showcase over a 1,000 high school, college and pro competitors on Saturday, March 24 on the campus of Prairie View A&M University.
 
The event will also highlight Prairie View A&M's seniors from both the women's and men's team as they will be presented on Saturday.  Seniors from the women's side will be Deonca Bookman-Hurdler, Takara Coleman-Sprinter, Alysse Grogan-Distance and Lakendra Mosley-Pole Vault.  The men's senior will feature Darwin Allen-Distance, Logan Williams-Hurdler, William Polley-Sprinter, Aaron Austin-XC/Distance, Devin Jefferson-Shot Put, Lorenzo Easley-Hurdler, D'Andre Jackson-Reeves-
Sprinter, Brandon Kirby-Sprinter, and Geovante Williams-Student Assistant.

"The PV Relays is a family oriented event that gives Prairie View an opportunity to expose the campus," said PVAMU men's track and field coach Christopher Clay.  "It gives us the opportunity to recruit as well and gives not just the athletes, but the parents to see our beautiful campus and that PVAMU exist.  We are excited about this event, because this will be a very competitive competition and we want everyone that can be there."
 
Among the Panthers expected to compete are SWAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week high jumper Nekiesha Bailey, 400 hurdler Bookman, 110 hurdler Williams and the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
 
Bailey, a junior from Kansas City, Mo has set the NCAA season and college-best mark of 5-10.75 feet.  Bailey is also the defending indoor and outdoor SWAC champion, winning the high jump event in three straight meets and in five of the Lady Panthers last six competitions.
 
Bookman, from Allen, Texas is a three-time SWAC 400m hurdles champion that posted a time of 59.84, but did not advance to the finals during the World University Games Thursday in Taipei, Taiwan.  In the process, she bested athletes from Italy, Denmark, Algeria, Norway, Turkey and Kenya. Bookman's time was 14th best among all athletes in the qualifying round and was a second off of her personal-best mark of 57.84.
 
Williams was 1st in the Southwestern Athletic Conference qualified for the finals of the Men's 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.08. Although this is a preliminary time, it marks his career best. Williams went on to finish seventh overall during the 2017 outdoor season.
 
The 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 are one of the fastest relay teams in the nation.  The quad of senior Polley, Sam Omoera, Ansar Richardson and Carl Jordan are all members of both the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.  In the Jet Relays the four-man team posted a time of 40.15 to place them seventh in the nation.  At the TSU Relays the team had the top fastest time coming in first place marking a time of 1:23.61.
 
Although the quad changes just a little in the 4x400 Terrell Moses is the lead-off man, Jordan is second, Williams is third and the team is anchored by Polley.  This relay team is ninth in the nation with a time of 3:09.95 which the posted at the TSU relays last week.
 
The meet will feature over 60 schools.  The list of professional athletes is listed at the bottom.  Among the colleges expected to be in attendance at the PV Relays are Adams State, University of Houston, Huston-Tillotson, Texas College, Texas Southern and host team Prairie View A&M that will compete.
 
The meet opens Saturday, with the high school long jump starting at 8 a.m. CT.  There will be a rolling schedule for the high school girls starting with 3200m, at the same time.  The full schedule of events can be found on pvpanthers.com.
 
Admission to the PV Relays is $10 per person.  PVAMU students receive free entry with a valid student I.D.  Parking is free to all spectators.
