Baseball Set for the 2019 SWAC Tournament

NEW ORLEANS, La. -   The Prairie View A&M baseball team are ready to face the Alabama State Hornets in the first round of the 2019 SWAC Tournament at 3 p.m., May 15th in New Orleans, La., in the Wesley Barrow Stadium.
 
For the third year the Panthers has met the Hornets in the opening round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball conference.
 
Alabama State enters the contest with a 25-24 overall record as the top seed of the East division, and will face the Panthers who enters Wednesday's game with an 17-33 overall record and the four seed on the West. 
 
In the beginning of the 2019 season in New Orleans, the Panthers faced the Hornets in the Andrew Dawson Tournament, with the PVAMU falling 10-9 in a down to the wire dog fight in 12 innings.
 
Senior Daniel Lingua leads the team hitting a .403 with 77 hits, 44 RBIs and has scored 55 runs.  Freshman Alex Martinez is hitting a .332 with 63 hits, 57 RBIs, while scoring 42 runs and hitting 11 home runs.
 
Yamil Pagan leads the Hornets this season in hitting at .368 with 71 hits and 13 home runs. He has also scored 63 runs and drove in another 50, while slugging .632. Meanwhile, Noel Cheneau enters the tournament hitting .335 with 71 hits and 23 extra base hits – including four triples and nine home runs – and leads the team with 58 runs batted in.
