BOX SCORE NEW ORLEANS –The Prairie View A&M baseball team (0-3) fell 7-6 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in an extra-innings heartbreaker during day two of the Andre Dawson Classic.
After striking first thanks to a RBI single from junior
Demetrius Young during the initial frame, Prairie View A&M regained control thanks to a three-run shot by sophomore
Alex Martinez in the top of the third that put the Panthers ahead 4-2.
Though the Lions scraped one across in the fifth, the Panthers extended their lead in the top of the eighth as junior
Andrew Paige laid down a RBI sacrifice bunt to score senior
Xavier Jefferson, and freshman
Darryl Jett drew a bases-loaded walk. However, a lineout ended the inning.
The Golden Lions managed to tie it on a three-run homer by Kacy Higgins in the bottom of the frame, ultimately winning it in the 10th as – following consecutive walks – a misplay in the field allowed a UAPB runner to score.
The Panthers stranded 12 runners. Martinez went 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of runs scored. Senior
Tyler Laux received a no-decision, going 7.1 innings and striking out six in his season debut.
