2020 Men's Indoor Track Season Recap

PRAIRIE VIEW – The 2020 Prairie View A&M Men's Track and Field team made plenty of noise during the season.

In addition to setting new personal bests, the Panthers went on to pick up several individual milestones, culminating in a runner-up finish at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Here's a closer look at the team's accomplishments from this past season:

Setting the Pace

Season Highlights:
- Sophomore Timothy Demerritt burst on the scene for the Panthers in his team debut, scampering away with a win in the 400-meter dash during Texas A&M's Ted Nelson Invite. Demerritt clocked in at 48.33. He would go on to win the silver medal in the event during the 2020 SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Sunne Rodriguez-Weems tied for first place in the pole vault after a clearance of 4.91 meters at Texas A&M.
 
- During the Jayhawk Classic, senior Levante Williams finished fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:40.74. Alex Medford earned third with a time of 1:15.03 in the 600-yard run, and in field events, Jovondi Williams won fifth place in the weight throw with a toss of 15.68m.
 
- The Texas Tech Invitational saw several personal bests for the Panthers, especially in the 200-meter dash. Carl Jordan (21.47), DeVonte Jones (21.66) and Cinceir Holmes (21.99) each posted the fastest times of their collegiate careers during the meet. Tristian Ham opened his season with a 5.01-meter clearance in the pole vault.
 
- DeAnte Crittenden took second in the high jump at Houston's Howie Ryan Invitational, topping 2.0 meters. He followed with a silver-medal effort at the conference championships.
 
- Sunne Rodriguez-Weems claimed the gold in the pole vault with a mark of 4.65 meters, punctuating a scintillating indoor career with the Panthers. Tristian Ham was second (4.45 meters). The duo finished 1-2 in the heptahlon as well, with Ham winning the gold (5,081 points) and Rodriguez-Weems (4,914 points) earning silver. Jovondi Williams took the bronze medal in the weight throw with a toss of 16.46 meters.
 
- Jonathan Ewulo won the SWAC's triple jump gold medal (14.84m). In the final event of the championships, Prairie View A&M's 4x400-meter relay team – Timothy Demerritt, Carl Jordan, Nasir Pate and Damon Cobbs -- smoked the field on their way to a gold medal. Jordan also won a bronze medal in the 400-meter dash and a silver medal in the 200-meter dash.
