BEAUMONT, TEXAS – Host team the Lamar Cardinals chalked up a 66-46 victory over the Prairie View A&M Panthers Wednesday night at the Montagne Center.
 
How it Happened:
PVAMU fell behind quickly in the first session of play, but some key shots by junior

Barbara Benson gave the Panthers life closing the quarter out with a five point deficit (18-13). 
 
The second quarter the Panthers were able to slice the deficit pulling within one point (27-26), but Cardinals would not allow PVAMU to get ahead as they took a 36-30 lead into the intermission.
 
Coming out of the break things came to a standstill for the Prairie View A&M Panthers, surviving a scoreless drought as the Cardinals limited PV to four points through 10 minutes of third quarter play. Lamar gained an advantage that never gave up (52-34)
 
Down by 18 the Panthers tried to get their momentum back, but it wasn't enough as the Cardinals pulled away scoring 14 points in the final segment to the Panthers 12 to take the 66-46 win.
 
Smith scored 13 points, hitting 2-for-4 from 3-point range to lead the Panthers, she also grabbed 10 rebounds making this her third double-double of the season.  Coming off the bench Rosenthal posted 12 points and eight rebounds.  Benson had eight points and two steals in the contest.
 
Prairie View A&M shot 27.9 percent for the game, going 17-for-61 overall from the field.  They were 8-for-15 for 53.3 percent at the free throw line.
 
Lamar shot 45.1 percent for the game, going 23-for-51.  The Cardinals were 5-for-12 for 41 percent from around the arch, and went 15-for-30 for 50 percent from the free stripe line.
 
The PVAMU will return to action on Sunday for a final regular season road trip to Ames, Iowa Sunday afternoon for a 5 p.m. CST tipoff.
