PRAIRIE VIEW – Due to continued inclement weather conditions across the Southern United States, Prairie View A&M athletics has announced the postponement, rescheduling or cancellation of all scheduled athletics events this weekend.
The following events regarding the baseball, men's and women's basketball, track and field, men's and women's tennis, volleyball and softball programs have been affected:
- The Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, originally set to take place February 18-19 at the Birmingham Crossplex, have been rescheduled to February 24-25.
- The league office also announced that the SWAC Tennis Pod I, originally set for February 19-21 in Baton Rouge, La. has been postponed due to inclement weather in the southern region of the country. The event will be hosted by Southern University on the rescheduled dates of February 26-28.
- The Thursday evening volleyball match slated between Prairie View A&M and Southern has been tentatively rescheduled for next Thursday, February 25.
- The Thursday contest between the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team and Texas Southern has been postponed. The contest was rescheduled from February 6.
- The men's and women's basketball contests against Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, set for February 20 and 22, respectively have been pushed back. Currently, the basketball doubleheader versus MVSU is tentatively set for Sunday, February 21, and the contests against UAPB are tentatively set for Tuesday, February 23. Additionally, the athletics department announced that the PVAMU/UAPB women's basketball game has been tentatively rescheduled for Wednesday, February 24 to make up the contest originally scheduled to take place on January 25.
- The Prairie View A&M softball team will not play in Baylor University's Getterman Classic, as the event was canceled.
- The Prairie View A&M baseball team will not open the season until February 26, as the Andre Dawson Classic – initially set to serve as the start of the Panthers' 2021 campaign – has been canceled.
