PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Ashley Chala's goal at the 54th minute propelled the Prairie View A&M soccer team (2-1, 2-0 SWAC) to a 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Sunday morning at the Coleman Complex.
"The players did really well to earn all six points on the road this past weekend," PVAMU Head Soccer Coach Sonia Curvelo said. "We still have a lot of room to grow, and more training sessions and games will help our team become better. We've posted many shots this weekend, which is great, but I feel we could have had more shots and goals against UAPB. We will work on those pieces this week before taking another road trip next weekend. I am proud of the team meeting the objectives we set for this past weekend."
How it Happened:
The Panthers' offense peppered the Lions with numerous shots to begin the match, putting UAPB goalie Kimberly Moss under duress early and often. UAPB was up to the task, and despite the Panthers holding a 10-1 edge in attempts, PVAMU was unable to get on the board.
As the second half began, the Panthers wouldn't let up on their frenzied pace, continuing to fire away at the Lions until Chala found the twine. From there, Prairie View A&M cruised as UAPB was unable to put a quality attempt on goal until the 82nd minute, when starting netminder Alexis Espino turned away the try to preserve the shutout win.
