PRAIRIE VIEW – A late header was the difference in Prairie View A&M soccer's 1-0 setback versus Alabama State during Southwestern Athletic Conference play Friday evening at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.
How it Happened:
A defensive battle throughout, Prairie View A&M managed multiple quality looks but was unable to cash-in. The Lady Panthers' best chance came midway through the second half, as Jojo Bernal had a prime chance but lost her footing before she could connect squarely.
Alabama State managed the game-winner as Mary Martin Mooneyham converted a Teaggan Ilela corner kick into a header that just missed the outstretched hands of PVAMU netminder Quinn Josiah in the 87th minute.
From there, the Lady Panthers weren't able to put together a scoring chance late, resulting in the defending champions' first league loss of the season.
Key Stats:
Prairie View A&M outshot Alabama State 8-6. Josiah made three saves.
