BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW – The Prairie View A&M baseball team faced off against Huston-Tillotson in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers took both games by the score of 17-4 in game one and 5-4 in game two at Tankersley Field.
Game One:
PVAMU 17, HT 4
- The Panthers jumped out in front in the second inning. Alex Martinez was walked to open the inning. Sebastian Coria singled advancing Martinez in scoring position. Christian Mendez brought Martinez Coria and Dominic Cox home for a 3 RBI double. Blake Redman doubled to left field to score Mendez to take a 4-0 lead.
- PVAMU broke the game open in the bottom of the third, posting six runs. Martinez opened with a single to left field, before Cox shot a RBI double to left center. Paul Castro singled to right center scoring Coria, who reached base on a walk. With the bases loaded Cox scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-0. Keanu Maldonado scored Mendez on a RBI single to right field. The scoring continued as Brayden Johnson hit a sac fly to score Maldonado for the 10th run of the game.
- The Rams scored a run in the top of the fourth and recorded one in the top of the fifth for a 10-2 score. The Panthers answered adding two more runs in the bottom half of their inning. After a triple to center by Redman, Jayden Williams hit a sac fly to center field to bring Redman across home plate. Gilbert Gonzales singled to left field to score Johnson for the 12th run as the Panthers earned the 12-2 lead.
- HT added two runs in the top of the sixth. PVAMU would respond adding five more runs for a 17-4 win.
GAME TWO
PVAMU 5, HT 4
- The Panthers put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Jordan Ginn hit a RBI sac fly to center field to score the first run for PVAMU. Cox hit a RBI single to left field to score Gonzales.
- The Rams put two on the board in the top of the second to knot the game at 2-2. They added a run in the top of the fourth (3-2), before adding a final run in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 advantage. The Panthers cut the deficit to knot the score at 4-4, as Cox hit a 2 RBI double to left center. Through two and half innings the game stayed still until Kellen Rogers was walked with the bases loaded to bring home Ginn for the 5-4 win.
