Prairie View, Texas- The Prairie View A&M men's outdoor track & field host team finished atop in the 89th PV relays hosted by the Panthers on the campus of Prairie View A&M over the weekend. The relays showcased over 40 high schools with at least 600 athletes on Saturday, along with some of the best athletes in the Nation.
PV's men's team finished the relays with a whopping 244 points in the 16 events that were scored. The seven other schools that competed finished in this order Wiley (82), Pratt CC (72), Huston-Tillotson (54), Texas Southern (45), Paul Quinn (25), Philander Smith (24), and Southwestern Christian College (5) rounded out the teams.
The Panthers began their scoring in the 110-meter hurdles with
Arrion Knight finishing with a 14.85 time and first-place finish, while Stanley Hamilton scored his points with a third-place time of 15.47. PVAMU continued their pace with fourth, fifth, and seventh-place finishes in the 100m dash. Toheeb Oladipup finished with a personal best time of 11.01, while Carlos Branch posted a personal best time of 11.16, and
Jalen Smith placed seventh with a personal best time of 11.27.
Branch had a solid performance in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.79 and a fifth-place finish, while teammates DeVonte Jones (21.99) and Smith (22.27) finished sixth and eighth in the same event. Smith also posted a personal best time. In the 400-meter dash Damon Cobbs (48.07), Timothy Demeritt (48.34), and
Christion Derrick (48.42) took the top three spots respectively.
Clayton Terry finished with a time of 49.55 for a seventh-place finish and
Nasir Pate was close behind him with a 50.37 eighth-place finish also in the 200m.
The Panthers continued to add to their numbers as Byron Daniels (2:00.57) and
Cymon Shy (2:03.16) finished in fifth and sixth place in the 800-meter run. Jerrel Reynolds finished in second in the 1500m run with a time of 4:23.75. Knight had another great showing with a second-place finish with a time of 55.55 in the 400m hurdles.
The quartet of Branch, Jones, Derrick, and Cobbs finished second in the 4x100m relays crossing the finish line with a time of 41.99 just shy of the first-place finishers Pratt CC (41.93). The men's 4x400 team of Derrick, Cobbs,
Camdyn Parsee, and Demeritt, closed out the relays with their best time of the season of 3:10.34 and a first-place finish.
In the field events, Kaiden Berry threw a personal best of 39.30m (128-11) for a first-place finish in the discus throw. He also had a first-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.04m (46-00.75). Teammates
Michael Bogues had a mark of 35.68m (117-01) for a second-place finish in the discus, while
Relon Jones placed third with a mark of 32.42m (106-04) also in the discus. Jones was second in the shot put with a mark of 11.75m (38-06.75). In the Hammer throw Jones had a first-place finish and another personal best with a 45.25m (148-05) mark.
Darius Jackson-Rubio was second with a throw of 39.06m (128-02) mark.
In the Javelin throw, Bogues had a first-place finish with a mark of 53.01m (173-11). Jackson-Rubio was third with a throw of 39.30m (128-11) and Stanley Hamilton finished in fourth with a throw of 35.30m (115-07). The men's high jump was showcased by
Oseyi Abulu who leaped to a personal best of 1.98m (6-06.00) for a first-place finish and outdoor season best.
In the pole vault event, the Panthers took the top three spots that were led by
Ladorian Havard with a vault of 3.95 (12-11.50). Hamilton was second with a vault of 3.80m (12-05.50), while Julian Claiborne claimed third with a vault of 3.35m (10-11.75). The long jump was topped by Shawn St. Romain who had a jump of 7.28 (23-10.75) and a first-place finish, while
Jaden Harris followed with a 7.07m (23-02.50) jump. Hamilton had a strong outing in the triple jump as he finished in first with a leap of 14.42m (47-03.75). Harris finished third in the same even with a jump of 13.90m (45-07.25).
